Chavit Singson, born in Vigan, Philippines, is a businessman, politician, and life enthusiast. He is regarded as one of the most influential people in his country. He is the only private citizen in the world to have led the impeachment of a country’s president, reshaping the political history of both the Philippines and his homeland.
First elected governor in the 1971 elections, he served intermittently for 29 years, making him one of the longest-serving governors in Philippine history. Singson has worked with all Philippine presidents, from President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who took office in 1965, to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., elected in 2022.
He owns over a hundred companies globally. His LCS Holding operates in banking, mining, real estate, IT and manufacturing. In 2016, he was the sole sponsor of the Philippine edition of the Miss Universe competition, spending over 15 million dollars.

Popular interview questions
-
Governor, what is the most important thing your father taught you?
L: “You should have only one word. Otherwise, nobody will believe you anymore. If you talk and talk and do nothing, you will lose your credibility – this is what my father told me – and once you lose it, it is very hard to get it back. Nobody will believe you anymore. That is what I remember so well and what I follow. If I say something, I do it. And if I make a mistake, I need to say I’m sorry.”
-
Is money important to you?
L: “Not really. I don’t understand people who think money is the most important thing. Money isn’t yours until you spend it. That’s why I spend it.”
R: Money isn’t yours until you spend it. What do you mean by that?
L: “You never know when you will die and you can’t take money with you to the grave. So, if you have money today and wait to spend it until you die, well, it is not yours. Somebody will get it, and even your children may quarrel about it. People don’t understand that; they save every peso, they are afraid of losing their money, and they don’t want to share it with anyone. Money is the center of their lives. Then, finally, their end comes, and it turns out that they collected it all for nothing because they never used it. So all that money wasn’t really theirs.”
-
What legacy do you want to leave for your country?
L: “First of all, I would like to make the Philippines known as a place with honest and friendly people – a country where you can visit, have a great time, and come back with more friends. You know, I always take care of my name, so I want to do the same for the Philippines. I want to promote the Philippines and build a name for my country. I consider developing tourism to be one of my important goals. I would like to give Ilocos Sur a good tourist infrastructure, including restaurants, hotels, and attractions. Something that will be gained in the long term. Those are income-generating projects. I also would like to teach people how to cooperate and cross party lines when there are some things to do for the sake of our children and the future of Ilocos and the Philippines. I want to leave the Philippines more peaceful.”
